The Library maintains two departments; namely department of Technical Services and the Reader Services

Department of Technical Services

Department of Technical Service is responsible for the ordering, receiving, cataloging, binding and general processing of library materials acquired by the IFM. Moreover, this department ensures proper functioning and regular maintenance of the library’s ICT facilities, integrated library management system, and Online Public Access Catalogue. In this regard the department endeavors to sustain the highest academic standards by acquiring resources that support teaching, learning and consultancies at the Institute of Finance Management. Tasks such as selection, ordering, receiving, accessioning, claiming, recording, and processing of books, journals and all other library resources are professionally handled.

The department handles a centralized system for the organization of library materials with the necessary bibliographic records and controls to facilitate access to all materials that the library holds and acquires.

Department of Reader Services

This department ensures that every library patron is best served with appropriate information resources in timely and effective manner. The Department of Reader Services has the following functional units:

  • Circulation/lending unit; contains general collection where readers are allowed to view, select and borrow for home reading for a specified period of time.
  • Periodicals unit; contains newspapers, scholarly journals, government publications and magazines as well as theses/dissertations
  • Special reserve; contains reading materials which are highly demanded and reference in nature. Readers are allowed to borrow within the library and not allowed to browse through this collection. .

General Library Services and Facilities

Information Desk;

For all inquiries about the library; services and resources offered, interpretation of library rules and regulations, and general information about IFM

Circulation/ Loan Services

Readers are allowed to browse through the open-shelves, select and borrow books for home reading for a specified period of time using the valid Identity Cards

Users’ Education

The library develops and provides user education training to the library users in order to enable them to make more effective, efficient and independent use of information sources and services available for them and hence become lifelong learners

 Computer Service

Computers in the library are maintained for the purpose of accessing academic related information  resources such as academic databases, e books, online dictionaries and the library’s Online Public Access Catalogue-OPAC which is the index to the bibliographic information for the resources maintained by the library.

Users are restricted to use the computers for typing assignments, viewing and downloading unauthorized materials and videos. The library shall not be responsible for the loss of work saved to the hard drive of any library computer.

 

Physical Resources

General Collection- 2nd Floor Library (Old Library)

Contains books that cover different subject areas organized in open shelves where readers are allowed to browse through the shelves, read within the library premises and borrow for home reading

Reading & study space with open tables for individual study is available adjacent to the General Collection book shelves, discussion and group study are strictly prohibited

Special Reserve- 3rd Floor Library ( New Library)

Contains reading materials which are highly demanded and reference in nature. Readers are allowed to borrow within the library and not allowed to browse through this collection.

Reading space with individual study tables is available; discussions and group study are strictly prohibited

Periodicals & Serial Publications -3rd Floor Library ( New Library)

The library maintains the following periodicals;

  • Local newspapers,
  • Print journals covering different subject areas,
  • Government publications and magazines as well as
  • Theses/Dissertations for students and faculty members
